Fall and spring final exams occur at the end of each semester, while summer finals are scheduled the last day of class for each session. Students will have one full study day between the last day of class and the beginning of the exam period, except for summer sessions. Summer session does not have a study day. It is your responsibility to make sure you know when and where you will be taking your finals.
It’s time to show what you’ve learned
Finals for course sections that do not meet during the last weeks of the term—for example, first eight-week or Wintersession classes—are held during the last class meeting.
If you have more than three finals scheduled on the same day, you can take steps to have your exam schedule adjusted. First, check with your instructors to find out if you can schedule a make-up exam. If not, do the following:
- Check the exam schedule to find out which three exams come first during the day.
- For any exams that follow the first three, make sure you let your instructors know by the middle of the semester.
If you choose and feel prepared to do so, you may take all finals as they are scheduled.
The final exam schedule exists to limit potential conflicts in your exam schedule. If an instructor gives an exam, it must be held on the day and time published on this page.
If an instructor changes an exam time and that creates a conflict for you, you should first talk with your instructor. Generally, faculty are willing to work with you to find a way to resolve a conflict. A possible suggestion is for you to take the exam at another time, in the Student Success Center.
If you are unable to resolve the problem with your instructor, the escalation path is to report the change to program coordinator of the offering department, and advise them of your efforts to resolve with instructor. If it still is not resolved, escalate the matter to the dean of the offering school. If you have tried all of these avenues with no success, contact the Office of the Registrar.
An instructor giving a final exam before the final exam period should be addressed in the same way.

III. Classes that meet one day each week will have the final exam at the class meeting time. But during the examination period (December 16 - 19). However, instructors should verify examination time/room availability with the Registrar's Office at seregr@iu.edu. Students confirm their exam time(s) with the course instructor(s).
IV. Exams for online classes are scheduled by the instructors during the examination period. Typically, the exam will be made available online ("opened") in Canvas, with a set date and time by which it will close, before the close of exam week. Check instructor syllabi or expect instructor to provide more specific details as exam time for your class approaches.
